DETECTIVES are investigating after a woman was seriously assaulted in Bradford city centre. 

Police were called to Westgate at the junction with Drewton Road at 3.21pm today to reports that a woman had been stabbed.

She was taken to hospital with significant injuries. 

A scene is in place, which includes road closures on Drewton Road, Westgate - between Drewton Road and Lumb Lane - and Wigan Street, and members of the public are urged to avoid the area if possible at this time, West Yorkshire Police said.

A force spokesperson added: "Extensive enquiries are ongoing and local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area.
