KEIGHLEY Show organisers have reflected on a hugely successful 2023 event.

Record crowds had descended on Marley playing fields for the extravaganza, Keighley & District Agricultural Show Society's annual general meeting heard.

Discounted admission prices – thanks to support from Keighley Town Council – and good weather had helped boost the visitor numbers.

Show chair William Mitchell thanked everyone involved in September's event for helping to make it "a very pleasurable day".

There was a wide range of attractions, from traditional agricultural classes to a fun dog show.

Entries in most classes were up, as was the number of trade stands – nearly 100.

There were several new draws, alongside familiar crowd pleasers.

Mr Mitchell said a revised showground layout had helped improve crowd flow.

He added: "Extra helpers setting up the show provided a massive bonus and the whole team deserves a pat on the back.

"I would appeal for everyone to bring somebody, who might be interested in getting involved, to a future meeting."

Retiring president Jack Atkinson paid tribute to all those who had "worked hard to make the day so memorable for myself and my family".

He was thanked by Mr Mitchell, who presented him with a photo album as a memento.

Jon Crossley was elected president for 2024.

He has been a partner with Burrow & Crowe Accountants & Business Advisers Ltd, which has offices in Cross Roads and Otley, since 2004.

Mr Crossley said: "My involvement with Keighley Show started in 2016, with my border terrier Ronnie entering the terrier racing.

"Our firm has been sponsoring the show since 2017 and each year we bring our 12-strong team and their families to the event as a 'thank you' for their continuing hard work in the business. It’s a great day out and the team looks forward to it."

The society reported that its accounts confirmed it could "look forward with confidence" to organising this year’s show – on Saturday, September 7 – although sponsorship, donations and fundraising are "always welcomed" to help offset rising costs.

Lead officials re-elected were Mr Mitchell and treasurer Will Twigg.

After eight years as secretary, Abby Marsh has stepped down. Anyone interested in being considered for a show administrator role is invited to get in touch. The committee is also seeking someone, or a small team, to run the rabbit section.
