A NEW fundraising appeal is being staged to help young people across the region access the Yorkshire Dales and take action to improve the environment.

The Big Give is being launched by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, with the aim of raising £60,000.

And for a week, beginning on Thursday, April 18, every donation will be matched by long-term charity partner Tarmac.

Proceeds will go to the trust's Green Futures programme, which supports young people to connect with nature and develop life skills.

Donations can be made at bit.ly/donate-greenfutures from noon on April 18.

Fiona Busfield, Green Futures manager, says: "Inequalities in the UK make it hard for many young people to visit our national parks and benefit from spending time in nature. As many as 80 per cent of young people want to do more to care for the environment, but lack the skills and confidence.

"That’s where the Green Futures programme comes in. We aim to inspire young people and give them the capabilities and self-belief to create the world they want to see.

"We are grateful to Tarmac for its support of this crucial work and say a huge 'thank you' to those who contribute to our Big Give campaign."
