A KEIGHLEY company has been awarded funding and business support to boost its innovative work.

The Stitch Society is among six businesses in West Yorkshire to benefit from the latest funding stream of Innovate UK.

A £50,000 grant has been awarded to the Mantra House-based firm, which also receives tailored support for a year.

The Stitch Society, founded and run by Charlotte Meek, manufactures sustainable workwear and clothing using UK-sourced fabrics.

Charlotte says: "We're delighted to have been awarded the grant by Innovate UK, which is the UK’s leading research and innovation agency.

"It's great to have our work in the sustainability field recognised. The funding will enable us to develop vital solutions for fashion and textiles using design, product tracking, repair, reprocessing, resale and finally recycling rather than sending waste to landfill."

Since its inception in 2013, The Stitch Society has won several awards for its ethical workwear and branded textile products.

And last year it acted as a hub for Sustainable Fashion Week.
