A HISTORIC hall is to stage its first-ever 'summer festival'.

Activities are taking place across the East Riddlesden Hall site, on Sunday, May 5.

Artisans will showcase and sell their handmade wares in the 17th-century Airedale Barn.

Food and drink vendors will offer everything from pizzas to ice creams.

On the lower fields, young visitors can tackle an inflatable course – for £2 – try their hand at planting with the gardeners, or enjoy river dipping with National Trust rangers.

Hester Pode, welcome manager at the hall, says: "This is the first year that we have put on a summer festival, and our hope is that it will be the beginning of a new yearly tradition for us.

"Access to the summer festival and lower fields is free; normal admission prices will apply for entry to the hall and gardens, with free entry for National Trust members and under-fives.

"Every visit by people to East Riddlesden Hall helps us look after this special place – from taking care of our collections to looking after nature in the gardens."
