KEIGHLEY'S Scout movement turned out in force today (April 21) for its annual St George's Day parade and service.

Young members and leaders made their way through the town, led by a piper, for an open-air service held at Church Green.

Hundreds of people, from across the organisation's various sections, took part in the event.

Special guests at the service included deputy lieutenant of West Yorkshire Gill Arnold, Keighley MP Robbie Moore, town mayor Councillor John Kirby, Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Gerry Barker, West Yorkshire Scouts county youth commissioner Toby Hammond and Guiding representatives.

A candle was lit – and silent tribute observed – in memory of those from the movement locally who had died during the past year.

The national anthem was sung.

District commissioner Jeanette Young led members in the renewal of their promises.

A number of different accolades were given out, including ten and 15-year service and Ron Powell awards.

And there was a sing-song.

Tribute was paid to all leaders and others involved in supporting the movement.

Mrs Young said: "All of you deserve a great deal of applause for everything you do in Scouting."

The comments were echoed by Mr Hammond, who also praised the "fantastic" turnout.

And Mr Moore said: "A huge 'well done' goes to everyone – you all do a fantastic job."
