ANDY Cook has 20-20 vision on keeping the play-off dream going until the last game.

Cook’s 18th goal of the season started City’s superb fightback to beat Walsall – a third straight win that leaves them still in with the chance of a top-seven finish.

Last year’s League Two golden boot winner would love to add a couple more to his tally to reach the next milestone – and shoot the Bantams into an unexpected play-off spot.

“I’d like to think I can get to 20,” said Cook. “I’d like to think I’m in with a shout with two games left but I’m still happy if not.

“I obviously wanted to replicate last year. But how often do you see a striker get 30 goals a season again?

“You see (Erling) Haaland doing it but not people at this level.

“Hopefully I get 20 but if not, I still want to contribute to the team and see where we come at the end of the season.

“We want to finish on a high. If we miss out, so be it – if we get in, who knows what might happen?”

Barrow, another of Cook’s former clubs, stand in City’s way and are five points better off ahead of tomorrow’s rearranged clash in Cumbria.

But the Bluebirds have been wobbling and the big striker has his sights on increasing their current troubles.

Cook added: “It’s another team who are wanting to secure a place in the play-offs.

“We went to Walsall and put a dent in it for them and we’ll try and do the same again.

“The aim is to go up there, win the game and you never know what happens then going into the last game of the season.

“We’ve shown what we’re about. After the run where we were getting beaten, we’ve shown the character needed to get back to how we should be winning games.

“The manager has shown what he’s about and how he wants us to play. We carried that on when we were 2-0 down on Saturday and came back to win.

“It will be annoying if we just miss out (on the play-offs) but it will be what it is.

“If that’s the case, we’ve got to dust ourselves down and be ready for next season and hopefully perform better.”

Cook’s first-half header against the Saddlers was his first goal since the home hammering by Mansfield during City’s disastrous run last month.

“I hadn’t scored in the last couple of weeks and it gets a little bit frustrating. But I feel I’ve been performing well enough to keep the shirt.

“The gaffer has stood by me and I felt like I repaid that by scoring against Walsall.

“We made it hard work for ourselves on Saturday by going 2-0 down after 20 minutes.

“The goals we conceded weren’t great. They didn’t carve us open, they were just poor goals.

“But it’s credit to the lads in the team that we came back like that and kept going.”

A month ago, City were languishing in 17th and nine points adrift of Crawley in the last play-off – having played a game more. Victory at Holker Street would lift them just one behind going into the final round of fixtures.

Cook said: “We had those four defeats – getting beaten at home by Forest Green, losing 3-0 to Harrogate – it’s just showed the character we’ve got in the dressing room to overcome that and put the run together that we have.

“We just want to continue that now to the end of the season and see where it takes us.

“After Harrogate, it was demoralising for everyone – for us and for the fans. But we’ve picked ourselves up and we’re still in with a shout.”
