A shopkeeper slashed a man with a knife after a gang demanded cash over a debt.
The owner of the Hanover Furniture Centre, a business in Hanover Court, Keighley, used the knife when Ansar and Rehan Iqbal, Khalid Azam and Arfan Hussain threatened him over a £400 debt for a car they sold him, Bradford Crown Court heard.
Hussain was seen carrying what was described as a bat but was, in fact, a car crook lock into the shop.
Rehan Iqbal threw a cabinet at three men behind the counter and the shop owner reacted by grabbing a Stanley knife and slashing Iqbal across the neck, back and side with cuts so deep they needed stitching.
He left Hussain needing plastic surgery to an arm wound.
Prosecutor Louise Reevell said the owner would not face prosecution as he was acting in self-defence. Instead, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, sentenced Rehan Iqbal, 21, and Ansar Iqbal, 25, both of Devonshire Street, Keighley, Hussain, 21, of Devonshire Street and Azam, 27 of Granville Street, Highfield, Keighley, for affray, a charge they had admitted earlier.
They were each given a 12-month community order, including supervision and 100 hours of unpaid work.
