Keighley’s team of neighbourhood wardens is up to strength.

There are now five of the “crime and grime” wardens patrolling around the Keighley constituency.

The wardens’ tasks include reporting fly-tipping and graffiti, advising residents on recycling and promoting community pride. They will also work with police to combat anti-social behaviour.

They will eventually have the power to fine people for dropping litter or allowing their dogs to foul.

The Keighley team is part of a 42-strong roster of wardens, funded by the Government, around Bradford district.

Two of the Keighley wardens have already been working for many months as Streets Ahead wardens in the Knowle Park, Bracken Bank and Woodhouse areas.

Each area of the district has a dedicated team working with residents to tackle environmental and community safety issues.

The council said the wardens were quickly developing an invaluable store of local knowledge and building up a positive relationship with residents.

Worried residents could take concerns to the wardens, who would use their network of contacts in the council, police, housing and other agencies to find a solution. The wardens would work alongside the council’s existing “clean teams”, which already operate in the district to quickly and effectively respond to reported problems.
