St Barnabas Church, Thwaites Brow writes

Sometimes a friend or acquaintance will tell me it is possible to worship God without going to church and I agree with them.

Yes you can, but the question is “do you?” There is always something happening to divert your attention, to spoil your concentration, so it is actually easier to worship in the church with others supporting you and providing an atmosphere in which God can be felt more keenly.

You may be able to worship God on your own but I don’t think you can be a Christian on your own. Jesus said: “Do this in remembrance of me”.

In other words meet together to eat and drink at his table and this is not something you do alone.

We have just kept Remembrance Day and though it is possible to remember the fallen at home, it has added meaning when you meet with others at a local war memorial.

Meeting together gives support and help. The old rule still applies to Christian people — the Lord’s people in the Lord’s house, on the Lord’s day, at the Lord’s own service.

This is not an option, you can always do your own thing as an extra. Yes, if you are out and about on Sunday, you can remember and praise God without going to Church, but will you? Why not join others in worship and receive and give support in a Christian fellowship.
