A rock concert in Keighley will raise money to send disabled cheerleaders to America.

Bands across the region, including Keighley pop punks Dead Message, will perform at Victoria Hall.

Proceeds will help the Jewels whose members are people with learning difficulties from across Bradford district.

The team was recently chosen to represent the UK in the World Cheerleading Championships in Florida.

The concert on Friday, April 1, is being organised by Bradford District NHS Care Trust, which also set up the Jewels.

The concert, entitled That Band Thing!, promises rock, punk, country and blues music as well as comedy.

Michael Pears, assistant manager at the trust’s Keighley Day Services, said the line-up would cover every musical taste.

He said: “There will be some serious talent on stage. Victoria Hall is a fantastic venue.”

Performers include Channel 4-featured Manchester punk girls Hookers, covers bands Covered in Cool and Road Kill, and country, blues and Americana exponents Do Miss America.

The host is local comedienne Liz MacKenzie and the Jewels open the show with a performance at 5.30pm.

A raffle will offer prizes including Bradford Bulls tickets, a stay at the Midland Hotel and a camera.

Tickets cost £7 from the Musicians Centre at Keighley Railway Station or by phoning Mr Pears on (01535) 338536.

Funding for the America trip is also coming from the Jewels’ corporate sponsors Sovereign Health Care.
