The pirate-themed adventures of two Keighley toys in Malta will be related to local schoolchildren this winter. Happycat Jones and Dolly Dipstick will tour primary schools with their companion Malcolm Hanson. He will read his story, The Search for Blood’s Treasure, which will be accompanied by photographs taken in Malta. The two furry toys, mascots of Keighley Festival, are popular among young children in Keighley due to previous appearances. Local historian and storyteller Mr Hanson said he accompanied Happycat and Dolly around the Mediterranean island. He said they visited a number of exotic locations, including the Malta Studio “back lot”, Bir Mula Heritage Museum, Fort Ricosoli and Popeye Village. Real actors played the parts of Popeye, Olive Oil and Bluto in the photos for the last scene, while Mr Hanson's friends made up the rest of the cast. Mr Hanson said: “The story ends with Happycat and Dolly using the reward money to buy a cabinet for the new children’s library at Lees Primary School.”
