Occupants of a Keighley house escaped unharmed after a fire started in a first-floor bedroom.

Firefighters were called to the terraced home in Ripley Street at 11.15am yesterday.

Keighley Fire Station crew commander David Knox said two adults had been in the property at the time.

“They were exiting the house when we got there,” he added. “They had a bit of smoke inhalation but they were fine, although we called them an ambulance.

“The fire was quite well developed when we arrived - flames were coming out of the window.

“Two firefighters in breathing apparatus went upstairs and put out the fire. There was a bit of damage to the bedroom and smoke damage to the rest of the house.”

The cause of the blaze was unknown but it was not being treated as suspicious.

The property was fitted with smoke alarms, which had activated.
