Keighley-district schoolchildren are among thousands from across the Bradford area taking part in a celebration of the Olympics.

The music, art and dance spectacular is at the Bradford Bulls’ Odsal stadium on Monday.

The event will include a world record attempt on the pitch for most pupils doing Zumba, a parade with Olympic-themed banners and a mega sing.

There will also be an RAF parachute display and flypast, and the pitch will be covered with Olympic pictures produced on bedsheets.

The Sports & Cultural Olympiad is a partnership between Bradford Council, the Bradford Bulls Foundation and schools.

Monday’s event will kick-off a week of activities at the stadium.

Among the schools involved are Eastburn, Nessfield, Oldfield, Parkwood, Stanbury, Victoria and Worth Valley primaries, and Holy Family and Oakbank secondaries.

Coun Ralph Berry, the Council’s executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “This week of activities is impressive and will provide an opportunity for thousands of children and young people from across the Bradford district to take part in a big event. Schools have been preparing for this for weeks.”
