A leading Latvian musician has performed a concert at Malsis School alongside one of the school’s pupils.
Santa Ignace shared the stage with young Hannah Sherry during a concert for pupils and teachers at the Cross Hills school.
Santa, who now lives in Killarney in the Republic of Ireland, is the private piano tutor of Hannah, who has just won a music scholarship to Repton.
During the concert, Santa played Chopin’s Sonata Op.35 in B flat minor and Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz, and with Hannah played Scott Joplin duet Easy Winners.
Malsis head Marcus Peel said: “It was magical hearing Santa and Hannah playing together. Santa is one of the most accomplished pianists in Europe and it was a privilege to welcome her to Malsis.
“We pride ourselves on our variety of concerts here.”
Santa, 30, recently competed in the Giorgos Thymis International Piano Competition in Greece, which is contested by the best pianists from all over the world and she reached the semi-finals.
The competition jury asked Santa to give a concert at the Loudun Piano Festival in Paris later this year.
