Organisers of Harden Children’s Gala have thanked villagers who turned out to support Saturday’s event.

About 800 people attended, despite predicted poor weather.

“The reduction in takings compared to last year’s figure was limited to 15 per cent and the weather after all turned out to be reasonably acceptable,” said spokesman Peter Bashforth.

“Thank you to those who attended in such numbers despite the weather forecast – we very much appreciate your loyalty.”

A procession, headed by the New Orleans Jazz Band, included fancy dress entrants and walking tableaux and floats.

Gala queen Amy Holdsworth, helped by her attendants Rosie Bailey and Ruby Alvey, then opened the event.

The stalls and attractions included a popular new golf game, a magician, children’s races and performances from the jazz band.

And a tea tent was as busy as ever.

The gala committee thanks everyone, of all ages, who helped with the event.
