Cononley Gala has been hailed as a massive success.

A procession and packed programme of afternoon events at the gala field on Saturday were followed in the evening by a hog roast and music from Beatles tribute band Help!

Lois Brown, for the organisers, said: “It was a fantastic village event, despite the weather. A great day was had by all and hopefully there will be a record profit.

“Over 130 tickets were sold for the evening do and it finished off the day brilliantly.”

The procession, led by the Dales Jam band, included fancy dress and floats, judged by guest of honour Marion Wilcock.

Gala queen Nina King, attended by Maisie Miller and Katie Spencer, was crowned.

Retiring queen was Harriet Mason and her attendants Frances Wade and Hannah Hall.

Attractions included a dog show, music from Dales Jam, country dancing by Cononley Community Primary School, the Tailwaggers dog display team, Cononley Singers, a tug-of-war won by the Railway, egg-throwing and a fell race.

Hill race – first boy Jack Thompson, first girl Susan Lloyd; best overall sports boy Benedict Percival, best overall sports girl Susan Lloyd.
