A community-spirited family has raised £1,027 for Manorlands hospice.

Steve Seymour, the manager of Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre, together with his wife, three sons and daughter-in-law make up ‘Team Seymour’ which has collected the cash through a variety of charitable activities over the year.

Mr Seymour said: “We have all really enjoyed the fundraising this year, having set ourselves a target of £1,000.

“We are over the moon to have already achieved this with at least three more events planned.”

Team Seymour will take part in the Bronte Sportive cycle rides on July 15. The Mirfield-based family was also present to support the May 31 Mascot Gold Cup, at Wetherby Racecourse, although Mr Seymour said he was regrettably unable to run dressed as the Airedale Centre’s Filbert the Squirrel, due to a recent knee operation.

He added: “We’ve been raising money for different charities for about ten to 12 years. We’ve done golf days, football fundraisers, abseiling – but the one thing I’m not going to do is jump from an airplane!”

Manorlands said it has had a fantastic response from the mascot event, when mascots from across the country joined in and brought along supporters.
