Drivers have been warned to expect delays during seven weeks of bridge strengthening on the Aire Valley trunk road.
Bradford Council will begin essential bridge works on the A650 near Crossflatts on Monday, July 16.
The Council said that there would be a contraflow system in operation to maintain two-way traffic over the bridge, and there would also be pedestrian access at all times.
Signs were due to be put on the road this week giving advance warning of possible delays.
The Council said that police, the fire service, ambulance service and public transport chiefs would be made aware of the work.
