The chairman of a group which markets Keighley and Bronte Country as a tourist destination reiterated the need to engage with traders in Haworth.

Matt Stroh reminded the latest meeting of the Bronte Country Partnership (BCP) that the traders currently had no collective representation. The Haworth Village Association was axed last year after its committee cited a lack of support for its efforts.

Since the group folded, separate groups have managed to continue staging Haworth’s programme of public entertainments.

Mr Stroh said there may be a possibility that individual businesses in the village could each pay a nominal sum in return for membership of the BCP.

The assistant curator at Cliffe Castle Museum in Keighley said it was intended that the building’s ground floor would be open again to visitors in April next year.

Kirsty Gaskin said upstairs renovation work could take a little longer. The historic property closed more than three months ago to allow for a £370,000 refurbishment and rewiring project.

Keighley Civic Centre had been visited by more than 2,000 people in the seven weeks it had been officially open, according to Keighley Town Council’s special projects co-ordinator, Alan Parry.

He said the numbers were encouraging when taking into account the fact the facility had not yet been widely advertised.

Keighley Town Council’s Aire Do concert will take place in Cliffe Castle Park on the weekend of July 28 and 29. Delivering her own update to the meeting, town councillor Pauline Rogan said the event would mainly feature rock and pop music on the Saturday and tribute bands and a carnival procession on the Sunday.

Philip Rushworth, the secretary of Cliffe Castle Park Conservation Group, outlined some of the other events planned for the park this summer. These include a performance by the Hot Aire Concert Band this Sunday from 2pm to 4pm and a performance by the Bradford Met Concert Band on Sunday August 12 between the same times.

Mr Rushworth said there would be a “celebration of food day” on the cafe terrace on September 23.

East Riddlesden Hall will hold its summer fun day on August 12.

The attraction’s visitor experience manager, Carla Weatherall, said last year’s event was attended by about 800 people.

Activities on offer next month will include live bands, donkey rides, local crafts, face painting, a bouncy castle, refreshments and a beer tent.
