A knitting group in Lees that is busy producing clothes for pensioners has made an appeal for wool.

The group at Lees Methodist Church is running out of yarn.

Members, who live as far away as Exley Head, Cullingworth and Oakworth, have been using wool donated by Shipley College.

They now want individuals to donate their unwanted balls of wool, or businesses to donate seconds or oddments.

They also want buttons, preferably large ones, to sew on to the knitted neck warmers they are making.

The group has been making knitted clothing for the charity Age UK to distribute to older people during the winter.

The group members have also knitted items for an orphanage in Africa.

Shona Grange, who runs the Bradford Shares self-help scheme for over-50s, hopes the popularity of the knitting group will lead to similar groups in other parts of Keighley.

She is asking local churches and businesses to offer space in their premises to such groups. She can be contacted on (01274) 482438 or at shona.grange @creativesupport.co.uk.
