Pupils of two schools in Braithwaite have been taught the importance of building site safety by a company constructing houses nearby.

Staff from Barratt Yorkshire West, which is building the Vision estate off North Dean Avenue, visited Merlin Top Primary School and Phoenix Special School.

Contracts manager Mick Smith and sales advisor Charlotte Sutcliffe worked with more than 300 children.

The youngsters learned about the dangers of playing on building sites. They tried on the safety clothing required for work on site and learned how it helped keep site managers safe.

Children then took part in a quiz and the five winners were invited to visit the Vision development to look at the construction equipment.

Merlin Top head Mike Harrison said it was important for the children to be aware of the dangers on a building site.

Mr Smith said: “This safety day is one part in a series which is designed to ensure safety remains the highest priority as the build work at Vision continues.

“The children were incredibly enthusiastic and we are delighted that over 300 more youngsters now know how to behave around a dangerous building site.” More information on Vision is available from (01535) 608288 or barratthomes.co.uk.
