A group has been formed to ensure Haworth’s Halloween and Christmas events continue to draw in the crowds.

Traders and local residents have banded together to form ‘Haworth Community Christmas’.

Group spokesman Mike Hutchinson said: “We had a meeting and there must have been about 30 people there. We don’t have a chairman but we do have a treasurer and basic constitution. It’s quite a loose organisation – with it being about community events we don’t want to make it too formal.”

Mr Hutchinson said the new organisation was keen to hear from local bands and choirs willing to be part of the village’s autumn and winter festivities. He said he and his colleagues would also like to recruit people interested in serving as marshals.

The village’s Halloween celebrations take place on the last weekend of October. Bradford Council will hold a Christmas market in Main Street on November 17 and 18.

The traditional Scroggling the Holly festival will be on the first weekend of December. The following weekends will feature the torchlight procession, the Christmas fair and the nativity event.

Choirs, bands or individuals who would like to get involved should contact Mr Hutchinson on (01535) 645992 or David Sisley on (01535) 643642.
