Learning is blossoming for youngsters at Strong Close Nursery School & Children’s Centre in Keighley.

A new garden area has been opened at the Airedale Road site.

Deputy head Julie Groves said: “It provides numerous learning opportunities for the children, not only about how to look after and care for plants but early reading and writing skills, measuring and counting, food preparation and healthy eating. The next phase of the development is to make use of a greenhouse which has been delivered over the summer holidays.”

The area is accessible to all the children, including those with additional needs. Each class has its own raised bed.

The youngsters have worked with Helen Stathers – a professional gardener involved in various community projects – to plant, grow and care for fruit, vegetables and sensory plants.

A grant was awarded for the scheme from the Area Action Plan Fund by ward councillors. They, governors and parents were invited to the opening ceremony.
