Visitors to Cliffe Castle Park were given a flavour of Keighley's diverse cultural make-up on Sunday. Local people from the town's Asian, Italian and Ukrainian communities provided traditional dishes from their cultures.

And members of the park's Conservation Group provided food from the UK, France, Ireland, Germany and Turkey.

Dishes on offer during the Celebration of Food included pizzas and pakoras, salamis and sausages, potato soup and parkin, gherkins, porter cake and baklava.

The event was organised by the conservation group with the Italian Citizens of the Third Age, Keighley Asian Women’s and Children's Centre, the Sangat Centre and Ukrainian Centre.

It was held to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and received money from a diamond jubilee fund run by Keighley area co-ordinator’s office.

A conservation group spokesman said there was a wide range of visitors from local communities and further afield.

She said “Food brought together some of the outstanding local communities in Keighley and there seems to be enthusiasm for a similar event in 2013.”

A representative of environmental group Keighley Transition asked people what they thought about plans for a local produce shop in Keighley town centre. A museums officer took along a dinner party menu used by Henry Isaac Butterfield, original owner of Cliffe Castle, and provided information on the progress of the restoration work.
