A mountain bike challenge in aid of Manorlands has been hailed a big success.

More than 250 riders took part in Sunday’s event and it is hoped about £10,000 will be raised once all the sponsorship money has been collected.

Participants could choose from three routes, named after the Bronte sisters, with 150 people tackling the new 26-mile Charlotte course and 50 each the 21-mile Emily and the 11-mile Anne, for families and beginners.

Main sponsor of the Bronte Mountain Bike Challenge was Walker & Co Chartered Accountants, which also provided guides for the 11-mile route.

And support was given by Aire Valley Cycles, which was the start/ finish sponsor and supplied a sweep for the event.

First home on the Charlotte route was Simon Rogers in two hours 11 minutes, with Danny Drake second just two minutes behind him.

The Emily route saw Michael Jowett first back in just under two hours and four minutes.

Manorlands fundraiser Andrew Wood thanked all the riders and the volunteer marshals.
