The Green Dragon will be breathing fire this month on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

The Flying Pig will also be dropping in to delight visitors to the heritage line during its annual steam gala.

Several vintage locomotives, some of them 100 years old, will pull carriages from dawn till dusk.

They include Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway No. 957, a Victorian loco which starred as the Green Dragon in the 1970s film The Railway Children.

Visiting locomotives include Ivatt class 4MT No. 43106, nicknamed The Flying Pig, and Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway ‘A class’ No. 1300.

Also running will be the Haworth Haddock train, which serves fish and chips during the journey, accompanied by an hour of musical entertainment on Keighley platform. The event runs from next Friday, October 12, until the Sunday.

Railway chairman Matt Stroh said: “Our Steam Gala Weekend is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to see all of our locomotives in action, along with some special guests.

“The line from Keighley to Oxenhope will be alive with steam over the whole weekend – it really is a dramatic sight and truly reminiscent of times gone by.”
