When women’s institute members stripped off for their famous calendar, the proceeds went to support cancer sufferers.

And when Keighley Playhouse staged the play about the WI members’ experiences, they raised money for the same cause.

A collection among the sell-out audiences of Calendar Girls last month raised a total of £1,264 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

A cheque has now been presented to Frank Craig, of the charity's Bradford and district branch, who paid tribute to the generosity of the Playhouse audiences. He said: “This money will go a long way to investing in quality research to bring assistance to patients in beating blood cancer. The outlook for patients with leukaemia is much better now than it was many years ago thanks to the money raised with such projects as Calendar Girls.”
