A 'DARKER Nights' campaign has been launched to promote home security and best practice – and showcase crime prevention products.
West Yorkshire Police are behind the initiative, which will run until next March.
With the clocks having gone back and darker nights drawing in, the campaign aims to minimise the chances of householders becoming victims of crime.
Officers will be out in each of the force's five districts delivering home-security handouts to residents. Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.
Repeat victims of crime and vulnerable addresses will receive a burglary toolkit book, which includes a checklist to help homeowners and tenants examine their own security and advises ways of making improvements to fit all budgets.
Neighbourhood Watch will play a large part in the campaign, alongside neighbourhood policing teams.
A spokesman said: "There will be posts on social media, sharing home security and burglary-specific crime prevention advice and images. We will also be releasing some short videos and there will be some Facebook live sessions as the months go on."
