A DEAFBLIND teenager from Keighley has been shortlisted for a national award.
Chloe Leach, 19, who has Down’s Syndrome and complex needs, is a finalist in the annual Sense Awards.
She has been recognised in the Young Person of the Year category for successfully making the transition from school to college during lockdown, despite having to shield.
Chloe has also continued to participate in the Sense Buddying programme, which pairs disabled people with volunteer buddies to stay connected.
Her mum, Paula, says: “Chloe is amazing and charms everyone she meets. She is our inspiration. It’s through her reaching small goals that keeps us all going.
“Chloe will try anything and it’s because of this that we have found the Sense Buddying service and how amazing it is. We never have a day without laughter, or chocolate!”
Sense chief executive, Richard Kramer, said: “We are delighted to nominate Chloe for the Young Person of the Year award. Her successful start at college is a fantastic achievement, particularly during such a challenging year.”
Winners will be announced on Tuesday, December 1.
