FLYING Scotsman is on track for a return to this area.
The world-famous locomotive will call at Keighley when it heads to the Settle & Carlisle Railway this summer.
It’s due to haul The Waverley on July 11 and August 22.
The train will pick-up passengers at York, Leeds, Shipley, Keighley and Skipton.
Steam services are resuming on the Settle & Carlisle route next month after a year in which many historic locos have been largely idle due to the pandemic.
Heritage rail operator The Railway Touring Company has announced a series of steam dates along the iconic line.
On May 22, the Cumbrian Mountain Express will be in action – bringing passengers from London, Milton Keynes, Rugby and Nuneaton.
And The Waverley will also be operating on August 8 and 15 and September 5.
In a normal summer, around 2,250 passengers would travel on The Waverley. But this year, numbers are limited to allow for social distancing – and demand is high.
Kelly Osborne, managing director of The Railway Touring Company, said: “Already a number of our steam excursions for this summer are full. After a very tough 15 months for the heritage rail industry, it’s tremendous to see such enthusiasm and support from people.”
