A man who underwent surgery as he battled cancer died days later because of complications, an inquest heard.
Bradford Coroner’s Court heard how Kevin Stack, 72, of Greenhead Road, Utley, had undergone a successful ileostomy operation last year to remove a growth on his bowels.
He had been fitted with a pouch to compensate for bowel function and returned to Airedale Hospital to have it removed. But he died in the intensive care unit after the operation on June 14.
Post-mortem evidence indicated the cause of death was a wound infection and peritonitis, a serious disorder caused by inflammation.
Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded a verdict of misadventure.
