ATROCIOUS weather did not prevent a good crowd gathering at Oxenhope Cricket Club for the official opening of the Howard Smith memorial gates by his family.
Smith, who passed away last year after a brave battle against cancer, was a lifelong club member, playing in five decades and continuing as a committee member right up to his death.
The gates were paid for by donations from his many friends from the club, the wider cricketing community and the village.
Oxenhope open their season in the Foster's Halifax League at home to Bradshaw on Saturday – weather permitting – with the second team's fixtures reversed.
