TWO young skaters are celebrating medal successes against competitors from across the world.
Hannah Lee, 21, and her 18-year-old sister Jenny, of Main Street, Farnhill, were taking part in the Inclusive Skating Championships in Glasgow. They included categories in figure skating, speed skating and ice dance.
Hannah took four gold medals in various categories, while Jenny won one gold and two silver medals. Jenny is studying catering at Craven College, while Hannah is on the second year of an occupational therapy course at Sheffield Hallam University.
The Inclusive Skating competition system allows skaters with any form of impairment to compete fairly against each other through an impairment compensation that is added to the skating score.
Inclusive Skating is a charity, formed by former UK skating champion Margarita Sweeney-Baird, which has the aim of making ice skating a paralympic sport. The annual competition, held last year in Reykjavik, Iceland, has so far attracted skaters from Scotland, England, Ireland, Canada, Iceland, the USA and Finland.
