THE RIVER Aire is fishing well along local stretches with several multiple catches reported in the past week.
Keighley Angling Club member Darren Watson chose an established peg at Kildwick to land 40 chub in a single session. Although frustrated by minnows and the occasional crayfish, he got his tactics right to add eight brown trout to his haul.
Using pole with double baited maggot fished four inches over depth, Watson kept the fish interested all day.
But it was the ones that got away that left Watson pondering how good it might have been after watching three large fish, including a superb specimen barbel, slip from his line before he could bring them to the bank.
Other anglers shared the excellent fishing conditions. Notable catches included a 3lb barbel and magnificent chub weighing a shade under 6lb.
The canal between Silsden and Riddlesden continues to be a fertile spot for bream fishing, with white maggot and corn proving effective bait when supplemented with groundbait.
