Silsden 2 AFC Liverpool 0

COBBYDALERS manager James Gill was delighted with his team as they secured his first Premier Division victory since he took charge on Tuesday night.

It was a pulsating contest in which the Yorkshiremen faced a new Liverpool outfit following the departure of the manager and nine first team players.

The Merseysiders field a side largely made up of members of their under-18 and under-20 sides and they were no pushovers.

The Cobbydalers had Kyle Harrison partnering Josh Kaine at the heart of the defence but it was the substitute who made the impact up-front.

Kaine was soon into the action clearing a cross from Connor Belger when Ed Hall slipped as he tried to clear a through ball. At the other end Kevin Ryan's first touch was too heavy allowing Germano Mendel to save at the striker's feet. Chris Wademan then went on a a great run down the right but the home defence stood firm.

Centre forward Brandon Gaskell stood out for the visitors. His first shot lacked venom but as the half progressed he became more influential.

Hall did well to deny Gaskell after 20 minutes when the striker broke through two tackles. Gaskell then set up James Tyrer who headed over the bar.

Silsden midfielder Roberto Borominio then saw a low drive parried by Mendel after good work from

Ten minutes before the interval Belger split the Silsden defence with a fine pass to Gaskell who forced Hall to make a tremendous save.

Belger headed a good chance wide while Silsden's Bonaminio saw one effort saved and a second cleared off the line.

Former Bradford City player and new assistant Danny Forrest came on for Dale Feather after the break and made a dream debut.

Joe Mitchell hit a curling free kick into the box which Ryan headed down to Forrest who netted just 46 seconds into his debut.

Wademan twice went close before Silsden wrapped up the points. The impressive Mitchell delivered a free kick into the box where the returning Cobbydalers favourite Jamie Longley netted with ten minutes to go.

Liverpool still searched for a vital goal to give them hope but Paul Speed's header bounced onto the bar and Griffiths was denied by a spectacular save by Hall.

Gill was delighted with the performance and the result. Fortunately he has built up a good squad which will enable him to rest different players in the run in.
