Bolton Woods 1 Oxenhope Rec 6
AFTER finishing runners-up in the league, Oxenhope's youngsters went one better by winning the Craven, Aire & Wharfe Junior League Under-18s Cup final.
Oxenhope started the stronger, hitting the post and having shots cleared off the line.
Against the run of play, they went behind on the half-hour through a defensive error but got back on level terms on the stroke of half-time when Tom Baker collected a perfectly-flighted ball over the top and tapped in at the far post.
Oxenhope went ahead early in the second period when Lewis Hopkinson got on the end of Sam Murphy’s long throw to head in. Soon after Hopkinson converted a powerful free-kick from 30 yards. Rec were now in full flow and Murphy was on hand for number four after the Woods keeper had parried a free-kick.
A six-player move saw Callum Franklin find the target and the rout was completed with an Owen Williamson free-kick.
The win was a fitting end to a 12-year junior campaign that has seen the vast majority of the squad go through the age-group ranks together.
