KEIGHLEY Albion under-11s proved worthy hosts as they finished runners-up to Birstall Victoria in their six-team tournament.
In front of a large crowd, Keighley started with a comfortable win against Brotherton Bulldogs as play-makers Sammy Wild, Lucas Evans and Jack Tetley turned on the style.
Strong running from big Noel Durkin, Ashton Davies and the elusive James Grey kept teams on the back foot as further wins came against Huddersfield St Joseph's and Drighlington. Special mention goes to Tyler Hedges, who scored his first tries for the club.
Next for Albion was a very strong Siddal team, who were also unbeaten, and what a game it was.
Both teams were massive in defence and creative in attack as Keighley came out on top.
The destiny of the trophy came down to the last game against Birstall, who had thrashed Albion twice in the league this season.
They proved too strong again but Albion were delighted with their runners-up spot.
Keighley try-scorers were: Sam Wild, James Grey, Lucas Evans, Jack Tetley, Noel Durkin, Jimmy Young, Harry Benn, Tyler Hedges.
Meanwhile, Keighley Albion under-sevens took part in their first rugby tournament at Siddal on Sunday. Their two teams – whites and reds – enjoyed a successful day.
