West Yorkshire League League Cup

Quarter-Final

Oxenhope 0 Robin Hood 2

ROBIN Hood stole the spoils from Oxenhope in their West Yorkshire Cup quarter-final clash.

Division One Oxenhope hosted Premier Division Robin Hood and gave a good account of themselves, despite being without their two recognised main strikers Lee Reilly and Tom Marshall.

The first half was end to end as both teams played attacking football.

Dan Moriarty was first to test the Hood keeper, breaking through the visitors' defence but being thwarted by their keeper.

Soon after a James Bailey corner produced consternation in the visitors’ defence as first Luke Scott, then Moriarty and finally Dan Scott all had attempts blocked.

Moriarty then put in a cross and Lewis Hopkinson climbed above all others but his header went agonisingly wide.

At the other end, keeper Ricky Driver pulled off two quality saves, first from a powerfully hit free-kick from just outside the box, followed by a close-range strike from a corner.

Oxenhope’s Keann Shaw produced a well-timed last-ditch tackle to prevent a clear strike on goal.

In the final minutes of the first half, a strong run and cross down the right by Danny Driver, came to Bailey he played a one-two with Moriarty but the former's shot was well saved.

The home side's defence was breached on the hour, a throw-in was headed into the box and the Robin Hood striker drove the ball home.

Oxenhope's best chance came when Driver provided another cross but Moriarty's header was saved.

On 75 minutes the tie was made safe when a break down field saw the Hood wide player cut in to the edge of the box and execute a powerful shot on the angle to hit the top corner.

Oxenhope went to a more attacking formation in search of goals but the visitors now played with confidence and hit them on the break and it was only thanks to another two outstanding diving saves from man of the match keeper Driver that prevented more goals.

Oxenhope: Driver R, Driver D (Bailey E), Williamson (Quinlan S), Scott D, Hopkinson, White, Shaw, Scott L, Moriarty, Bailey J, Nelson (Scott J).
