SAM Smith, of Wharfedale Harriers, won the Junior Great North Run.
The South Craven School student became the U15 boys' Junior Great North Run champion, racing against a field of just under 600 boys, winning in a time of 12 minutes 57 seconds, from Joshua Blevins (13.19)
The race is run over four kilometres along the quayside of the River Tyne, crossing the river over two of the iconic bridges.
The junior races are run the day before Sunday's main half-marathon and attracts thousands of youngsters from all over the country in all age groups.
