FARSLEY Celtic’s upward momentum in the Evo-Stik Premier Division was stalled as they lost 2-1 away and were leapfrogged by Nantwich Town.

Back to back wins had seen Adam Lakeland’s men haul themselves back up to ninth place and a third victory on the spin could have lifted them into the top four.

It was not to be though as the Dabbers overtook them and are now two points better off, having played one game more.

The Celts thought they had taken a sixth minute lead but Ben Atkinson’s header from Lewis Turner’s cross was ruled out for offside.

The home side broke the deadlock midway through the first half as James Lawrie created room for himself on the edge of the area before firing a low shot past Celts’ keeper Kyle Trenerry.

Trenerry made a super save soon after to prevent Sean Cooke doubling the Cheshire side’s advantage but the home side did go 2-0 up when a deep, 43rd minute free kick was headed home by Joel Stair.

However, the Celts pulled a goal back as the scoring was completed before the break, Jimmy Spencer chipping the home keeper in first half stoppage time.

Early in the second half, Paul Walker was inches away from equalising, while Cooke should have made the game safe for Nantwich, but he fired wide when well placed.

The eventual defeat dropped Farsley down to tenth while the Dabbers hauled themselves up three places to seventh.

Brighouse Town also lost ground in Division One East following a 3-2 defeat at Stamford, with both sides ending the game with ten men.

It took the home side just three minutes to break the deadlock, with Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson on target, and they soon led 2-0 after Chris Salt headed home from a 13th minute corner.

Midway through the first half, Town’s Iwan Heeley picked up a straight red card but just six minutes later the visitors halved the deficit.

Jack Normanton’s tenacity saw him break forward and his through ball found Tom Haigh, who beat the Daniels’ keeper Sam Vince.

The hosts restored their two goal cushion before the break as Grant Ryan drilled in a penalty, but Town halved their lead in the 70th minute when Aaron Martin netted after good work from substitute Mohammed Ibrahim.

Stamford’s man advantage was lost when Michael Armstrong was sent off, but with 18 minutes still left, Town could not force an equaliser.

Brighouse are back in action tomorrow night when they host Garforth Town in a West Riding County Cup first round tie.
