Steeton 2

Carlisle City 2

STEETON were the benefactors of an injury-time leveller, as Alistair Morgan bundled the ball home in the 93rd minute to deny second-placed Carlisle City at Cougar Park.

With manager Roy Mason away on business, Adam Smith was in charge of the side and he elected to go with the same starting XI as that started at AFC Liverpool eight days earlier in Hallmark Security League Division One North.

The game got off to a frantic start with both sides looking to get on the front foot. It was the home side that got the early breakthrough as Aaron Davis grabbed his first goal for the club since moving from Silsden.

Steeton looked to increase their advantage and Toby Jeffrey was just unable to get on the end of a long ball into the box.

Aaron Hollindrake was next to test the goalkeeper with a header, but it lacked the required power to really trouble him.

Steve Pearson did well to head away from underneath his own crossbar as Carlisle looked to go into the interval level. Andy Briggs also went close as Steeton were making all the running.

The visitors nearly levelled but they managed to block their own goal-bound effort with the last meaningful action of the half.

The second half saw the visitors really come at Steeton and they looked a different outfit.

Marc Shiel went close with a volley before they got back into the game as Michael Slack headed in to bring the sides level. Joe Mash did well with a low save to deny Shiel as Carlisle now sensed an opportunity to take the three points.

They then took the lead on 63 minutes when Tyran Taylor headed home as a corner was flicked on at the near post.

The visitors really should have sealed the game when Shiel missed from close range and Thomas Lucock rattled the bar with the follow up.

However they were made to pay for the miss as Steeton refused to lie down and the late drama ensured when Morgan grabbed the leveller that, over the balance of play, Steeton deserved.

Steeton are back in action on Saturday when they entertain St Helens Town at Cougar Park.
