ST Bede's had a disastrous end to their home game against Leeds City FC in the Yorkshire Amateur League Championship, blowing a two-goal lead in the final five minutes and having to settle for a point.

The 2-2 draw meant that second-placed Bede's failed to take advantage of leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys slipping up, as they were held to a 3-3 draw at home to Shire Academics.

The conditions at Bede's were atrocious to play in but both teams acquitted themselves well.

The hosts settled into the game better than City and took the lead after 20 minutes when man of the match Ben Shaw got on the end of a Sam Marshall corner to score.

Jermaine Moyce, who only arrived back from South Africa at 7am on Saturday morning, then notched an opportunist goal following a goalkeeping error to put Bede's two ahead.

Leeds City tried to recover but Bede's created numerous chances that were wasted through poor finishing or slipping on the 3G surface.

The visitors fought back. They hit the bar from six yards out and had a goal disallowed for offside.

Then, with five minutes to play, Josh Standley bent a shot into the far corner and City drew level on 90 minutes when Marc Ware arrived to ram the ball home from a James McFarlane pull back.

The visitors missed an open goal from three yards out as they nearly snatched all three points, but Bede's clung on for the draw.

In Division Two, Fairbank United were not at the races but they played their part in a thrilling contest, losing 6-4 at Sandal Wanderers.

Fairbank went two goals down early on, but an outstanding solo effort from Junaid Ali gave them hope. Sandal re-established their two goal lead just before half time though after a brilliant shot from the edge of the area.

The visitors started brightly in the second half and thought they had scored, but the referee deemed the ball had not crossed the line.

Sandal moved 4-1 ahead before Junaid Ali was sent through to score his second. However, Sandal duly went up the other end and hit two more.

Fairbank kept plugging away, hitting the post twice and wasting good chances, but they managed to hit two more consolation goals, with Junaid Ali completing his hat trick and Shahzad Ahmed converting a well taken effort.

Sandal remain sixth, but Fairbank are now only four points above them.

In the Premier Division, Alwoodley led Athletico 1-0 at half time but during the break, conditions took a turn for the worse.

The rain became torrential and there was a sudden drop in temperature. The game was thus abandoned, with the 3G facility unplayable because of black ice on the surface.
