AN open day and practice session day at Haworth Bowling Club has been hailed a success.

The club held the event at the bowling green in the village’s Central Park to encourage new members, and attracted 15 bowlers.

Club member Phil Clarke said: “It was wonderful to see so many people on the green enjoying themselves. We had some club players and visitors who came down and had a go for the first time.

“We would really like local people to join the club, and also the teams who play for the club. We would dearly love to put a team in the doubles league next year and would like to build the social side of the club too.”

The club are welcome people of any age, and as all the equipment needed for people to ‘have a go’.

Mr Clarke added: “The club had been in existence since 1937, and the park was opened 1929 and has a rich history.

“The club aims to put on some competitions later in the year. We will be holding more open/practice events on Sundays June 9 and 16, and July 7 and 28.”
