STEETON suffered a surprised seven-wicket defeat at lowly Colton Park Institute in Division Two of the Aire-Wharfe League.

Despite Aatif Modak (24) and William Luxton (17) putting on 38 for the opening wicket, they soon collapsed to 99-8. A wag from the tail, led by Adam Hardwick (17) saw them at least limp to 126 all out.

Paul Hardwick (2-38) and Stephen Pearson (1-13) took early wickets as Colton slumped to 20-3, but a fine 75 not out from Brad Firn saw the second-bottom side home with an easy win in the end.

Colton's mood will have improved further after hearing about rivals Ben Rhydding's collapse at Tong Park Esholt. TPE's Mahir Ali took mind-boggling figures of 9-10 to rout the visitors for 39, with his side then reaching 40-4 to claim victory.

Meanwhile, in Division Three, rock-bottom Harden felt they had Thackley on the ropes. They dismissed their opponents for just 147, with Matthew Hogg (6-46) and George gill (4-38) sharing all 10 wickets.

However, a poor batting performance saw them rolled over for 118, with Scott Hartley's 34 and Hogg's 26 not enough to see them home. Harden are 29 points from safety, with relegation all but assured.
