STEETON are set for their final pre-season clash tomorrow night, as they welcome neighbours Field to Marley.

It is unlikely to be as glamorous as Saturday, where their 3-1 friendly defeat at home to Maine Road saw none other than Premier League referee Jon Moss take charge.

Steeton were due to face Liversedge tonight in their final pre-season friendly, but that has sadly been cancelled due to a Covid outbreak in the Sedge camp, leading to this opportunity for Field.

Discussing how pre-season has gone for Steeton, manager Roy Mason said: "We have competed with every side we have faced, bar Maine Road, who were a step above us.

"We have shown in most games that we are not too far off and it's been a case of us not taking chances and making a few silly mistakes at the back that have cost us.

"However, people must remember that the players haven't really played any kind of football since December and that's a long time to go without playing.

"I have never known a pre-season like it for injuries and I am convinced that while the players came back fit, there is no substitute for playing games.

"!The break has taken it's toll on them body wise and normally we would only have a six week break between seasons, not six months.

"We have also had a number of trialists come in that we have needed to give came time to and as with other sides, we have had players who have had to self-isolate as well during the period.

"We are still looking at areas of the squad that we would like to improve and being a young group, it would be nice to add a little bit of experience into the mix as well.

"We might just have to bide our time on this as invariably things start moving player wise when players realise that they are not getting the game time they want at a higher level.

"The flip side is that managers further up the pyramid will also want to try and work with bigger squads next season if they can due to the possibility of losing players for the very same reasons we have."

Kick-off for Steeton against Field is at 7:45pm, with adult tickets costing £3, concessions £1 and under-16s going for free.

The clubhouse bar opens at 6:30pm.

Steeton's first league game is at Nelson next Tuesday.
