OXENHOPE are continuing their seemingly inexorable march to the First Division title in the Halifax League.

They thrashed bottom club Queensbury by 198 runs, scoring 279-8 from their 45 overs - a total that was boosted by a ninth-wicket stand of 60 between Liam Whitney (34) and Dan Scott (33).

Oxenhope then only had to use their opening bowlers to triumph, with Scott taking 6-39 and Joel Fothergill 4-38 as Queensbury were toppled for 81.

A much-higher scoring encounter took place at Shelf Northowram Hedge Top, who must have felt they had a big chance after rattling up 243-8, James Fearnley top-scoring with 54.

But Sowerby St Peters scraped home with five balls to spare as Aiden Green hit an unbeaten 143.

Greetland performed a similar feat at home to Low Moor Holy Trinity, who again must have been happy with their total of 252-6, skipper Lee Broadbent scoring a fine century.

The hosts’ lower order flourished, however, and they got home with an over left.

Blackley remain on Oxenhope’s tail after an 11-point win at home to Clayton, their 239-8 proving too much for the visitors, who finished on 144-8.

There was no change at the top of the Premier Division as Copley gained a comprehensive win at Great Horton Park Chapel, thanks mainly to a man-of-the-match performance from Oliver Thorpe, who took 3-30 and scored an unbeaten 102.

Chris Brown (52) and Ricky Hassell (47) top-scored for Great Horton, who continue to hold up the rest of the table.

There was a low-scoring affair as Bradshaw, who managed a win after scoring just 135, Charlie Holt-Conway hitting 40 as the Thornton bowlers shared the wickets.

That must have looked a straightforward task to the strong Thornton batting line up, but Josh Hutchinson (55) was one of only two batters to make double figures as they were dismissed for just 97.

In Division Two, second-placed Mount went home with just four points to show from their visit to Stones.

Dismissed for just 162, the visitors were grateful to Suleman Rawat for 63 of those as Ralph Bownas took 4-33.

Stones were equally reliant on Connor Walker, who scored 59 in reply as they passed the visitors’ total with eight wickets down.

At the other end of the table, Bridgeholme were dismissed by Cullingworth for just 102 but had the home side on the rack at 51-8 before Tim Welsh (19) and George Fletcher (32) saw them home, despite the best efforts of Moinul Islam (5-42).

Upper Hopton put Augustinians to the sword, having been 56-6 at one stage, before Ian Wightman produced a captain’s knock of 105 as they totalled 226.

The visitors were never really in the chase, despite 50 from opener Muhammad Asif Sheehzad, and were all out 144, leaving them rooted to the foot of the table.
