SILSDEN fell to a third straight defeat in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division after a 2-0 loss at West Yorkshire rivals Golcar United at the weekend.

A second-half brace from former Steeton striker Kayle Price was enough to hand the hosts all three points, while the out-of-sorts Cobbydalers side have now won just once in their last six outings.

In a first half of limited chances, Silsden striker Joe Crosby looked the most dangerous player, with his low shot from a corner easily held by the keeper.

Good work from Sumaili Cissa then allowed Crosby to produce another effort from the left-hand side of the box, but the Golcar defence were able to get the block in, while his next attempt saw him denied by keeper Jordan Porter.

On 41 minutes, the hosts should have taken the lead when Alex Hallam fired over an open goal after Sam Kelly had made the initial stop.

Into the second half, and Silsden were looking to play on the break.

Jack Normanton drove forward with ball before laying it off to Kyle Hancock, who sent a curling effort wide of the upright.

After that missed opportunity, Golcar began to take charge of the game, having a goal disallowed for offside on 69 minutes.

That relief for Silsden fans lasted just a matter of seconds, as within moments of the free-kick being taken, the hosts took the lead.

A low cross found Price unmarked, who finished rather unconventionally, putting the ball home via his chest at the back post.

Price went on to grab his and Golcar’s second on 83 minutes.

A through ball split the Cobbydalers’ defence and the striker made no mistake, placing his effort beyond Kelly to put the game to bed.

Cissa’s late disallowed goal summed up Silsden’s luck of late, as the game finished 2-0 to the hosts.

Silsden’s poor run of results has seen them slip to eighth in the table and with games coming thick and fast, starting at home to Frickley Athletic tonight, they will be looking to rediscover their impressive form from earlier in the season.
