Steeton-based golfer Max Berrisford has continued his sparkling form of late, as he finished second at the English Under-25 Amateur Strokeplay Championship.
Having won the prestigious Berkshire Trophy last month, Berrisford was looking to complete a summer double, and on a day which saw the lead change hands multiple times at Woburn Golf Club, he may have briefly thought victory was his.
The Ilkley Golf Club member made a poor start to his final round, with two bogeys, but he bounced back brilliantly with five birdies to take the clubhouse lead at -5.
But it was Mark Stockdale, playing on his home course, who took the victory, recovering from a torrid opening to his round by hitting five under on the back nine.
That saw him to a winning total of -8, with Berrisford forced to play second fiddle.
Berrisford’s strong performances have left him with a dilemma, and he told the T&A last month: “I’m still undecided about my future.
“I need to have a good think about my next steps as I’m still relatively young.
“I actually have a flying licence and my goal has always been to go into that field, with a possibility of becoming a flight instructor.
“Golf never crossed my mind initially, but victories like last weekend do give you that added confidence and belief.
“If I can continue to get good results in the top events, then who knows what the future might bring for me in this sport.”
