KEIGHLEY Cougars have suffered another potential blow in their fight against the drop.

Full-back Lewis Young, whose lengthy absence with an ankle injury in mid-season was crucial in their slide towards the Betfred Championship drop zone, has been hit with a one-game ban.

The RFL have charged him with Grade C Dangerous Contact in the relegation four-pointer against Swinton, which Keighley lost 18-10 to fall into the bottom two.

In listing the charge detail, the RFL wrote: “When tackling or attempting to tackle makes contact with the head or neck of an opponent.

“Reckless – tried to tackle but reckless about outcome.”

Cougars have said they will consider an appeal, knowing how critical Young’s presence is, as they attempt to escape the drop with six games of the season to go.

It could have been worse for Cougars, with captain Ellis Robson charged with Grade B Dangerous Contact for a late hit on his Swinton opponent.

Fortunately, he has escaped without a suspension, but has been fined £125 over the incident.
